Lunch & Learn: Hire Local Talent with Work-Integrated Learning
Presented by the Lloydminster Chamber of Commerce, Lakeland College and the Alberta Workforce Consultant (Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration)
When: November 26th, 11:45am to 1:00pm
Where: Lakeland College, Allan Markin Room
Finding skilled workers is a challenge for many Lloydminster employers. Students and recent graduates are a strong, local talent pipeline. Government funding can help make hiring them affordable.
Join us for a practical lunch session with Lakeland College's Work-Integrated Learning team and Serena Sjodin, Alberta Workforce Consultant. You'll learn how co-ops, internships, and student placements work, and how to bring students into your business.
What you'll learn:
- How Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) works. What it is, how Lakeland College connects employers with students, and what it takes to host a placement.
- Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). Wage support to hire youth aged 15 to 30. Applications open in November.
- Student Work Placement Program (SWPP). Wage subsidies of up to $5,000 per post-secondary student placement.
- Local connections. Meet the Lakeland College team and a Workforce Consultant who can guide you through next steps.
Bonus: training funding for your current team. You'll also get a quick look at the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG). It helps cover the cost of training for your existing employees, such as tuition, textbooks, software, exam fees and approved travel.
Why attend: Leave with a clear idea of which programs fit your business, how to apply, and how to connect with student talent in your own community.
